Avala Tour Belgrade

Belgrade Tour - The tour of Avala is a unique tour that allows you to familiarize yourself with the beautiful nature of Belgrade as well as to climb the top of the mountain Avala where at the highest point is a grand structure, Avala Tower.

Avala tower was designed from 1959 to 1960. , and built from 1961 to 1964, and then put into operation in 1965. It was high 202.87 meters. A masterpiece of architecture, the only tower in the world which at its cross section  has an equilateral triangle which symbolizes the Serbian tripod seat, designed by the architects Ugljesa Bogunovic and Slobodan Janjic and constructor academic Milan Krstic. In early May 1965, the tower has received the final layout and  was set up the with television and radio antennas. At that time it was the only tower with a base in the shape of an equilateral triangle. Previously, the restaurant was on the gondola at 118m but was closed in 1970’s. Seemingly "skinny" on three legs, it relied on core blocks buried 1.4 meters into the rock, the tower has endured the ravages of time and the strong “Košava " wind, moving in a diameter to up to one meter. It was demolished on 29th of April in 1999. by an aerial bomb during the NATO aggression on Yugoslavia, on the 37th day of the bombing.
Before the collapse of the World Trade Centers on 11th September 2001. Avala Tower was the highest destroyed building in the world.
Removal of the remains of the tower began in May 2005 and lasted two months. Since it is considered one of the essential features of Belgrade, it was decided that the tower must be reconstructed. The renewed tower was supposed to be opened on the 10th anniversary of its destruction, ie. 29th April 2009. But because of weather conditions, works lasted longer, so the tower was completed on 23rd October 2009. The tower has two lifts and a restaurant on 119 meters, and a viewpoint on a 122 meter height. The total height of the tower is 204.57 meters.
