Belgrade Attractions - Spain founded the Cervantes Institute in 1991, an institution that will promote Spanish language and culture in the countries where it is open. So far, it has been opened in more than 70 centers around the world, and Belgrade is one of them. The institute bears the name of writer Miguel de Cervantes. In Belgrade, the Cervantes Institute was opened in 2004 and has been actively working to bring Spain closer to the citizens of Belgrade.
The building at Cika Ljubina Street where the Institute is located is one of the most famous buildings in Belgrade. It was erected in 1904 and originally served as an American reading room. It has long been known among the people as the "Dawn" Palace, known for its facade. She changed her original appearance several times by building floors, and the building was also under the lease of the French insurance company Nacional. Interestingly, the building was owned by the Popovic family, but was nationalized during communist rule. One of the heir to the family never tried to reclaim his family's property.
