Belgrade Attractions - The astronomical Society "Rudjer Boskovic" is also involved in amateur observational work. For this purpose, within the society, in 1964 the National Observatory from the list Belgrade Attractions was established, which is to this day located in the adapted Despot's tower on Kalemegdan. The Belgrade Kalemegdan Planetarium from the list Belgrade Attractions is located at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube rivers, in the lower town of the Kalemegdan fortress (below Ruzica Church and the Chapel of St. Petka) since 1970.
The astronomical Society "Rudjer Boškovic" is one of the oldest astronomical societies in Europe and the oldest in the Balkans. When it was founded, by a group of students in 1934, the society had only a few members, while today it brings together more than 700 astronomy lovers and fans. The main role of this society is to popularize astronomy.
The astronomical Society "Rudjer Boskovic" has been issuing a yearly magazine, “Vasiona” starting from 1953. It has been wildly popular as a science magazine.
Every Friday and Saturday, when the night is clear, telescopes are available to visitors for demonstrational the observations of celestial bodies.
For nighttime observations there are two additional telescopes on the terrace - Zeiss telescope, refractor (110/2050 mm), and a telescope Tall 200 K (200/2000 mm), as well a a reflector. Night observation are followed by comments of our observers and staff, and the price of one night ticket is 30.00 dinars. In addition to the two above-mentioned instruments, the Society has two telescopes (lens diameter of 33 cm and 20 cm) that are used on special occasions such as observation trips outside Belgrade or at the summer school of astronomy.
Furthermore, mounted on the terrace of the National Observatory are four panoramic telescopes for daily observation of the city (a unique place in Belgrade for telescopic sightseeing).
