Belgrade Attractions - Botanical Garden "Jevremovac" bears the status of the first and only botanical garden in Belgrade and throughout Serbia. It is located near the city center in Takovska Street. The Botanical Garden has been proclaimed a Category II nature monument and a cultural monument and, together with the Institute of Botany, is a teaching unit of the Faculty of Biology in Belgrade. The garden houses a diverse plant stock of 1,000 plant species from different continents, a valuable herbarium and a library of 13,000 library units.
We thank Josif Pančić for establishing the first botanical garden. It was founded in 1874 on Dorcol along the banks of the Danube for teaching purposes at the Great School. Given the danger of flooding, the botanical garden was moved to the estate of King Milan Obrenovic in 1889, which he inherited from his grandfather, Lord Jevrem Grujic. The only condition the king set was for the garden to be named after his grandfather - a Jew who was fulfilled. By the way, the purchased large glasshouse of the Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful and largest in this part of Europe.
A variety of contents include a greenhouse with more than 1,000 tropical, subtropical and Mediterranean herbaceous and woody plants, an open space where more than 1,500 species are stored, a Japanese and European garden with plant species unique to these areas, rocky species authentic to the Balkans and the Children's Corner.
