Belgrade Attractions - The Foundation of Ivo Andric from the list Belgrade Attractions was established after the last wishes of Ivo Andric, on 5th of December 1974. He told Milan Djokovic, a writer, and Gvozden Jovanić, a cultural deputy, his last wish, with what they became witnesses and signatories. After the death of the great writer, the First Municipal Court issued a decision of validity of Andric's will on 20 June 1975. The foundation from the list Belgrade Attractions most important task was to maintain his legacy as a whole, and that its only purpose is for general cultural and humanitarian needs.
The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts was awarded to Andriće’s entire manuscript legacy. One part of the funds he earmarked for the allocation of the annual prize for the writer of the best book of short stories, or the best story. His longtime collaborators Vera Ostojic was entrusted to take care of his copyrights, and to manage his legacy and keep it, while earmarking a portion of his assets for her.
A year from Andrics death and many preparations the Foundation of Ivo Andric finally started its work, on 12th of March 1976. The legacy of the only Serbian Nobel Prize for Literature winner is being managed by the Board of directors with nine members, whose term ends every four years.
As part of the Foundation Ivo Andric is the Memorial Museum of Ivo Andric, and it belongs to the Museum of Belgrade. It was opened in 1976. At Andrićev venac in the apartment where the writer lived with his wife Milica Babić from 1958. The memorial museum has preserved the authentic layout of the entrance hall, lounges and study rooms of the Nobel Prize winner, while two bedrooms were revamped to a showroom with a permanent exhibit of Andric's life and creation. At the Memorial Museum of Ivo Andric, you can see the Nobel plaque and medal, Vuk's Award, honorary doctorates, indexes, passports, plaques and certificates, then the photos and original manuscripts of Andrić's work, letters, editions of his books in various languages and some of Andric's personal items.
In 1982 the Foundation released the first edition of the magazine “Notebooks” that comes out annually. The magazine “Notebooks” of the Foundation of Ivo Andric publishes unknown and unpublished works of Andrić as well as manuscripts, correspondence, scientific and critical studies of the writer's work and his life.
